Friday I was hopping along on my route feeling pretty sorry for myself as usual. With only 2 more stops to go. I started talk to one of my customers, Beth. She was showing me that her date on her phone always resets to Dec 31, 1969. I really didn't have an answer for her other than, maybe the person that wrote the software was born on that date. And then I commented on how it was weird that they pick the very last day of 1969.
She laughed and said that she was a junior in high school in 1969 and I said how it makes me think of that song "Summer of 1969" Then we went on to talk about iPods and then Kindle's. As soon as she found out that I liked to read. She started suggesting books to me. One was by Nicholas Sparks. About a Mother that dies and leaves behind her husband and children. In this book the woman writes a letter to her husbands future wife.
Beth then tells me that it reminds her of her daughter Amy that passed away last January. She too has left behind 2 daughters and a husband. Amy also wrote a letter to her husbands future wife.
Oh how my heart broke right then and there. I've been servicing this account for well over a year and I had no idea that she was going thru such a painful experience. See how quickly I have turned this around to me and how I feel.
I said to Beth "So she must have had plenty of time to prepare since she wrote that letter?" She said that Amy had a melanoma removed from her back 10 years ago and they didn't think much of it.Amy went off to college, married and bought the house right next door to her parents house.
Then she found out that she had a brain tumor and the doctors told her she had 6-12 months to live. She lived 8.
Her daughters are 3 and 7 now. Her husband has met someone but she has not read the "letter". I think that letter will find her just at the right time. Just how that book found Beth and Amy's story found me and now she lives on thru you too.
But no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
Cause there's a spark in you
You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July
